Upcoming Teradata Product Unveiled

We know, we know - the economy sucks (the Dow's down 450 points at the moment), and unless a product can spit out gold bricks, you don't want to buy anything new. Still, Teradata Corporation has just announced the Teradata 13.0 database, and the thing seems to be worth a second look.

One selling point involves the way in which the retrieval of frequently accessed data is automatically made faster. Data that's viewed less often gets less preferential treatment, but changes in usage patterns can be taken into account.

Geospatial patterns also play an important role. A press release claims, "Some of the types of business questions that can be asked include: How far will customers drive to buy a flat screen television on sale?" and "Where should a telecommunications company locate a new cell phone tower to enhance service based on an analysis of the location of consumer call traffic, customer service complaints about poor reception and the best topography?"

All in all, Teradata 13.0 is supposed to come with a whopping 75 new features, and its general performance is said to be 30 percent better than the last version.

Now, as for the matter of purchasing Teradata 13.0, you needn't weigh it against gold brick machines just yet. Think things over and save pennies if you wish, since the product won't be generally available until the second quarter of next year.
